The history behind Nescau: The Classic Chocolate Milk
Discover the intriguing history behind Nescau, the beloved chocolate milk, reminiscent of the good old days. Nestlé’s iconic brand has a story as rich as its flavor.
Nescau is a brand owned by Nestlé, renowned for its delicious chocolate milk. Its journey began in 1932 when it was initially created as a chocolate milk product for the Brazilian market, under the name “Nescáo.” The name “Nescau” is the result of blending “Nestlé” and “Cacáo,” representing the way “cacao” was spelled at that time. In 1954, capitalizing on the spelling changes in Brazil, the name was changed to “Nescau” to avoid confusion. People often misread the acute accent in “Nescáo” as “Nescão.”
Nescau started making its mark on the Brazilian market in 1961, thanks to a formula change that turned the product into an instant chocolate milk enriched with vitamins. In 1972, the product achieved even better solubility and introduced a vitamin complex. That year, Nescau launched a robust advertising campaign with a new slogan: “Super Nescau, the energy that adds flavor.”
Today, Nescau continues to be a cherished brand in Brazil and beyond, loved for its rich chocolate flavor and nutritional value. Whether enjoyed as a delightful beverage or used as an ingredient in recipes, Nescau remains an essential part of many households.
